Paul Alvarado is a firefighter from the Bakersfield Fire Department, and he was part of the team that responded to a call about a dumpster on fire. While they were trying to kill the flames, the brave rescuer heard a puppy crying. He looked for the source, but he couldn’t spot where the distressed animal was.
The responder walked around, trying to keep his distance from the fire. When he got around to a burning bush, he saw a small pup lying underneath it. Notwithstanding the immense heat, he scooped up the pup, who at that time, couldn’t even open his eyes yet.
Fortunately, aside from some minor burns on his hind legs, and some singes on his snout, the puppy was fine. But if it weren’t for Paul’s timely rescue, his fate would have been more tragic.
Recovery
A nonprofit group got wind of what happened, and they immediately rushed in to help. They brought the pup to a vet, and while waiting for the clinic to open, they named him Fuego.
The vet gave the pup a clean bill of health and Fuego was released shortly after. Rescuers from the welfare group brought him to their shelter.
They think that Fuego may have been part of a litter. His mother must have saved his siblings but couldn’t get to him in time.
Thankfully, one of the older dogs in the shelter took Fuego in and nurtured him.
Foster fail
When the little pup was big enough to be separated from his surrogate, He was sent to a foster home. There, the puppy thrived around a loving environment. His foster family doted on him, and they developed a bond with the sweet and playful pup.
When it was time to put Fuego up for adoption, the foster family decided to make his stay permanent. They formally adopted him as they can’t bear to see him go.
