One of the most challenging jobs that animal shelter workers have is to encourage people to adopt the rescue dogs they have in their kennels. Although more and more people are choosing to adopt rescue dogs instead of buying them from breeders, many dogs are still left behind and don’t get adopted.
In most cases, older dogs and dogs with special needs are the ones that don’t get adopted. Now, imagine trying to encourage people to adopt three blind senior dogs? This is exactly what the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals experienced.
The animal shelter was having problems finding forever homes for three blind senior dogs. People just didn’t want them since they were old and blind. However, a woman named Lindsay Devers heard about the dogs and decided to adopt all of them together.
The three dogs had been living in the animal shelter for a year, and they didn’t have long until they were placed on the euthanasia list. Luckily for them, Lindsay gave them a forever home. Lindsay called them the Three Blind Angels and everyone in her local community loved the dogs.
However, one of the dogs, Bella, got an infected eye and the surgery to treat her wasn’t cheap. Lindsay created a page to ask for donations for Bella’s surgery. What she didn’t expect was her community’s reaction. When the word got out that Bella needed money for surgery, Lindsay’s local community supported her by donating money.
Lindsay was able to raise more than enough money to cover Bella’s eye surgery. Although Bella’s eyes needed to be removed completely, she was no longer in pain from the infection. Lindsay is so thankful to her community for supporting her fundraising campaign.
Even today, she still couldn’t believe the amount of support she got for Bella. Here’s a video featuring Lindsay’s story and how her local community supported her with her three blind dogs.
