A two-year-old rescue dog is actually comforting and inspiring amputees at a rehab center through therapy sessions. But he is not your usual therapy dog because just like the others in the rehab center, he is also missing a leg. And that is exactly why he’s perfect for the job.
Tre is a Labrador-mix from Sarasota, Florida. When he was born, he already had a deformity on his right leg which made it impossible to be used. So when he was just three months old, his leg was amputated. But that didn’t make Tre any less of the happy dog that he is right now and in fact, it only made him even stronger.
Kyle McCreight, a 33-year-old occupational therapist and Tre’s owner, first saw Tre in the shelter. And there was nobody who visited Tre before he did. As a therapist, his job is to help people recover from their injuries and give them back their independence. That was why he thought that he could help Tre who only has three legs.
Soon enough, Tre gave back that help he received from Kyle as his very own therapy dog. And thanks to Tre’s determination to be like a regular dog even though he has something missing led him to a life working with both children and adults in a rehabilitation center. During therapy sessions, Kyle always loved sharing Tre’s story and it was always rewarding.
Kyle also shared that amputees can always relate to Tre because they understood his struggle. Like Tre, they can’t get back what they lost but they can accept and readjust to their new life. And when they see how happy Tre is, they realize that they could be too. Tre has always been that kind of inspiration to everyone in the center.
Tre always uplifts people and always reminds them that there is hope in their future.
