This is one of those hard to believe stories. It occurred in Miami with a 10-year-old Maltese Puppy named Nieves. Of course, she is a well-loved family puppy.
Part of The Family
These days, lots of people add dogs to their families. Heck, it looks so easy to take care of them, but it is not exactly easy to take of dogs. Let’s face it, in many ways, they take the same amount of work and energy as a child.
Children eventually tell you what they want or need, how they feel, and why they are mad. Puppies tend to make odd noises, use their noses, tug at your arm, or look at you with raised eyebrows. Still, no matter how much trouble or challenge they add to your family dynamics, they are a critical family member.
Without a doubt, even if they chew shoes or steal food placed too low to ignore, one look into those puppy eyes, and you’ll forgive them.
Unforgettable Event
Even as a key family member, one Miami dog owner learned first-hand dog peril at the hand of his own parent.
Alex, at 22 and a student, is the parent to Nieves, the toy Maltese. This puppy is a pretty, snow-white beauty.
Nieves is a true Miami girl flaunting her support for the local football team. After all, she is a designated Miami Dolphins good luck charm.
Grooming Time
It all started with her PetSmart grooming day. Alex’s dad is Nieves’s designated driver to and from all critical appointments. No reason to think it would be any different than every other time Nieves was groomed!
Not so!
As it turned out, two snow-white toy Maltese pups were waiting for their owners to pick them up that day. Both are beauties, especially after their spa day. However, the puppy, Alex’s dad, brought home was not Nieves.
Initially, when Alex and his brother confronted dad with the news, he looked crestfallen. Indeed, after additional questioning, dad admitted something about the pup seemed… different.
Alex shared the hysterical mix-up on Twitter. Everyone laughed and kept the banter up with each picture sent.
Alex’s dad joked he needed to get Nieves and return the other cutie before his wife discovered the mistake.
Laughingly, Alex and his brother shared the goodbye to their new buddy. The responses continued.
Happy Ending
Once Alex’s dad arrived back at PetSmart, he returned the puppy. Then he took a photo of Nieves and set it to the family group text. Perfectly understandable.
The banter and tweets continued as some could not understand how the mistake could happen. Other people were totally supportive.
Finally, the responses included other dad mix-up stories—several tweets about taking home the wrong kid. The laughter continued across the tweet exchanges.
Other people totally understood how it could happen to Alex’s dad.
It was unnerving, to say the least! Nevertheless, it was helpful for Alex’s dad to learn it happened to other people.
Nieves was delighted to return to the family home, and Alex’s mom was never the wiser!
