As kids, we had this belief that the best gifts are the ones that come in big boxes. This is why we would always fight the urge to frown whenever the presents we were given were smaller than our palms. Our hearts would even sink when they’re not as “bulky” as we’d want them to be.
When we got older, the realization that the size of the box slowly dawned upon us. We began to realize that the content matters more than the package. Of course, with this realization came the appreciation for all the gifts that were given to us, whether they be big or small.
The smaller, the better
One living proof that awesome gifts come even in the smallest of packages is Ranger, an adorable German Shepherd. What makes him special is he’s small, unlike other dogs from the same breed. That’s because he was born with a rare canine disease called Pituitary Dwarfism. It was caused by an infection from the parasite, Giardia.
Ranger is already a full-grown German Shepherd, but he still looks like a puppy. According to his owner, Shelby Mayo, he was the smallest pup in the litter. That time, they thought it was caused by the parasite, Coccidia. It was only when they brought him home to do a parasite purge when they realized that the real culprit was the Giardia.
Forever young
Ranger may be stuck in the puppy stage for eternity, but there are serious consequences that come with his condition. Aside from having flaky skin and fur that sheds like crazy, he also has Hypothyroidism which his thyroid gland cannot produce adequate amounts of thyroid hormones.
Those health issues aside, Ranger is a fun-loving pooch. When he’s not busy going to the vet for his treatment, he spends time hanging out with his owners. Sometimes, he interacts with his followers online, too!
