Ellie Was Dumped
Looking at the beautiful Ellie, it’s impossible to believe that anyone could discard her. Scared and alone, she was found clinging to the only thing she had left in the world…her giant teddy bear.
The one-year-old Blue Lacy dog originally lived with a family near Dallas, Texas. Several months ago, they surrendered her to the already busy local shelter. Jennifer Jessup, a New York City independent dog rescue, told the Dodo.
Her owners went to the trouble of getting all her shots, her spay surgery, and microchipped. Nevertheless, they abandoned her at the closest animal shelter. Poor Ellie lost everything familiar. At this time, the year old, Ellie found herself in a loud, scary place where they euthanize to make space.
Blue Lacy
A Lacy Dog or Blue Lacy Dog is a breed of working dogs. This breed originated in Texas in the mid-19th century. The Lacy was first recognized in 2001 by the Texas Senate. In Senate Resolution No. 436, the 77th Legislature honored the Lacy as a true Texas breed.
Ellie’s Experience
Ellie clearly found her experience at the shelter traumatizing, subsequently refusing to let go of her teddy bear. Fortunately for Ellie, her time at the sanctuary was soon to be nothing more than a distant memory.
As luck would have it, Jessup’s brother, who lives in Florida, wanted to adopt a Blue Lacy dog. He’d reached out to his sister to help him find one to rescue. She started searching online with the help of TAGG Rescue, A Dallas-based rescue group.
Soon enough, she came across Ellie in the Texas shelter. Jessup had a friend in Texas. He agreed to get Ellie. Jessup’s friend picked up Ellie and her teddy bear, then transported her to his boarding facility. Ellie had a bath, and the facility staff made sure her paperwork was in order. She was fully vetted and ready to go to a new home.
After a night at the boarding facility, Ellie went to a foster parent until she was moved to Florida. Ellie started to feel a little better once she was in a house, but she still clung to her teddy bear.
The Rescue
Jessup commented that the foster caregiver took a photo of Ellie without her teddy bear. She was curled up in a little ball, just scared to death. When he put her back with her teddy bear, she grabbed it and appeared relaxed.
Finally, time arrived for Ellie to meet her new dad. TWD Transport, a company that moves rescue dogs around the country, drove Ellie from Texas to Florida.
Home at Last
Obviously, it will take a while for Ellie to fully come out of her shell. Everyone is confident that Ellie is in her forever home.
By all appearances, she is slowly calming down. Mr. Jessup is in love, and sweet Ellie is getting lots of affection and quiet time.
Importantly, Ellie has a great future now!
