I love creating things, don’t you? Sometimes the simplest things are the biggest hit, like when kids get to color sidewalks with chalk.
Dogs are a lot like kids. They like to play, and many times they need to entertain themselves. It’s not like you can turn on a movie and expect a puppy to enjoy when the monster loses.
Different Activities
Dozens of activities come to mind for the four-legged members of the household. Bones are great to chew though the lifespan can be limited and costly. If you happen to have a big yard, then sniffing great stinks is also exciting.
Like most people, you play to win, and this toy has winner written all over it. Undoubtedly, the best part of this puppy slot machine is you can easily make it. If you have creative kiddos, they can help decorate.
Components
All you need is some wood. It might be plywood or other scrap wood that needed a good project to fit into. Add in a broom handle or a dowel. Those are the keeping it stable items. Use wood screws to assemble.
It should be heavy enough to remain upright, or you can stake it into the ground. If Fido knocks it over, it won’t be any fun, so he’ll learn quick.
Next, you need three empty soda bottles. Remove the labels and rinse them out. Let them dry thoroughly before you use them. Cut holes just below where the bottle sides are even and a little bit bigger than the metal rod. You don’t want them snug on that metal.
Mount that rod so that the bottles’ bottoms totally clear the deck—no dragging when spinning. Insert the rod through the three bottles. Insert the rod through a hole on each side of the wood and secure it with cotter pins.
Treats
Any good game with a puppy needs a reward system. What better way to teach this fun game than with treats? The pieces are small to allow for easy filling.
Use dry treats. Avoid anything your pup is allergic to. Fill a few in each bottle. Let Fido watch, so he knows the contents. Set it down and tell them to give it a spin. They play, spin, and win.
The treats will not fall out all at once. So, this fun can last for some time. Take a video and share it with others. This is a great conversation starter or way to involve the whole family in a DIY toy.
