Heart the pitbull is one of the sweetest, kindest, and most loving dogs that you will ever meet. He loves meeting new people and he’s always ready to make new friends.
Unfortunately, this sweet dog had a terrible former owner. This owner cut out his tongue and set him loose on the streets while he had injuries.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found Heart and rushed him to ACCT Philly, an open admission shelter. The veterinarian there took care of Heart and he is now fully recovered.
Heart’s recovery
The first thing the vets did was examine Heart’s injuries. They determined that a person deliberately cut out his tongue and that other dogs caused Heart’s puncture wounds. According to Sarah Barnett, who is the director of development and communications at ACCT Philly, this was surely one of the worst animal abuse cases that she’s ever seen. After treating Heart, the shelter started looking for someone to foster him.
Unfortunately, they weren’t able to find any fosters. It seems that many of the people who fostered dogs last year are now unable to do so. Fortunately, Sarah stepped in and decided to foster Heart herself. Sarah already knows how to take care of dogs with special needs, so she’s perfect for the job.
Finding Heart’s forever home
Sarah had to help Heart adjust to his disability. Sarah experimented with a lot of methods to get Heart to eat until she finally discovered that he can eat dry dog food as long as the food is in a raised bowl. Sarah also helped him learn that the world isn’t something to be afraid of. Heart still doesn’t like unfamiliar dogs, but he’s able to interact with people just fine.
According to Sarah, Heart’s ideal forever home is somewhere outside the city. Hopefully, this home will also have a large outdoor space where Heart can run around and exercise as much as he wants. Hopefully, someone adopts this sweet and loving dog soon.
