Cora, the corgi, is unique in several ways. Her owner, Madison Palm, often takes Cora along on her travels. She relates so well to people; Madison is getting Cora certified as a therapy dog.
Strangers in Need
Madison sees this puppy as incredibly independent and empathetic to her needs as well as the needs of strangers.
Madison and Cora were flying from Idaho to Alaska to visit Palm’s mom. While waiting at the gate for the flight, Cora wandered over to a fellow traveler. Cora sat at the feet of this stranger. Before Madison could call Cora back, the stranger reached down and petted her.
Madison asked the traveler if Cora was bothering him. He looked up with sadness and watery eyes and said, “No, no. I lost my dog last night.”
Madison was stunned at the intuitive behavior of Cora for this stranger. Cora gave all her attention to this man. Subsequently, he scratched behind her ears, stroked her fur, and praised her cuteness.
Madison is convinced Cora has the gift of knowing who needs her. In her mid-twenties, she feels lucky! Cora will walk up to a crying child and either lick them or rub her head on them to let them know she cares.
Madison Finds Cora
Sometimes fate steps in. Madison Palm, a deputy assessor title clerk in her county’s Department of Motor Vehicles, was in the office break room. A co-worker browsing Facebook showed her a post about a corgi being given away to the first person who came for her. Apparently, the corgi was killing the family’s chickens.
As a result, Madison left work to meet this dog. Clearly, the corgi was underfed and lived her whole life outdoors. She’d had several litters of puppies yet never seen by a vet. Furthermore, the food she received was the owners’ scraps thrown out into the yard.
Sadly, no real love or attention was provided by the owners. Madison realized she needed to move to keep this dog. But she refused to leave the corgi behind. Cora crawled into Palm’s lap for the ride home and never looked back.
Madison relates how Cora taught her unconditional love and forgiveness in the most meaningful way; by example.
As soon as Cora arrived at her new home, the corgi’s world changed. Cora’s ears were infected, her teeth were rotted, and the water turned black when she got her first bath. A trip to the vet treated her issues. Now she receives routine care.
Nevertheless, her personality was, and is, sweet and loving.
Bright Future
The new family moved to a new place. Cora and Madison’s other dog love to romp in the yard.
Fortunately, Madison keeps Cora close-by all day long. Cora wants to keep an eye on her new bestie. When Cora senses a need, she takes an alternate lap.
Cora helps Palm stay calm in chaos, which makes her a great certified therapy candidate.
Cora had her birthday on Nov. 1. To celebrate the occasion, Palm created the puppy cake with canned food and colorful, crunchy snacks. The candle is the perfect topper.
Cora is the path to help people. Without a doubt, Madison did this because she rescued this precious corgi.
