On a Friday afternoon in May, people were milling around a city park in Chillicothe, Ohio. Despite the beautiful day, visitors were shocked when they spotted a cage.
Someone left a locked cage on the ground in plain sight. Inside sat a white puppy, understandably upset and alone. No signs of food or water.
The Details
No one spotted a collar, tags or signs of her owner anywhere in the park. Scrawled writing, handwritten with a black permanent marker contained the only indication to the abandoned puppy’s owner.
Writing across her head Good home only. On one side the owner wrote Free. Scribbled, on the other side, I am a gift from God.
Transported for Care
The park visitors immediately called for help. They spoke to the terrified puppy through the bars until authorities arrived. Police took her to the Ross County Humane Society.
The kennel manager, Monica Denney, said nothing like this ever occurred during her three years at the facility. Facility staff were understandably stunned. Nonetheless, caregivers immediately worked to reassure the puppy and begin her processing.
Check up
Despite being abandoned in a locked cage and the black marker scrawl covering her, the five-month-old pup was in good health. The staff named this sweetie Marvella. The word in French means miracle.
Clean Up
After a thorough cleaning, the marker was finally washed away from her snowy fur. A short time after, Marvella perked up and showed off her puppy power. She is displaying a great attitude to the staff.
Marvella behaves like a sweet, friendly dog who didn’t deserve to be left locked up in a cage and left. No animal deserves that sort of treatment. Thankfully, the people took the initiative when they found the pup to alert authorities.
Seeking Justice
Subsequently, a police inquiry was launched. Abandoning an animal in this manner is not acceptable, and the community wanted justice for Marvella.
Authorities located the original owner of the puppy. Without a doubt, charges will be made according to the kennel manager, Monica Denney.
Sharing a story like this helps spread the word that mistreating animals does not go unpunished. With social media avenues, people across the country have seen the story of this pup. Like other abandoned animals, people will step in and help once they know.
Marvella deserves and will now have that wonderful life. This one event will soon be a distant forgotten memory.
