Last week, in Pompano, Florida, a police officer named Angela Laurella got a report regarding a dog tied to a pole along a dead-end street.
Without any cameras within the area, it was impossible to tell how long the poor dog had been there and who was responsible for tying him to the pole. However, with extreme temperatures outside, the officer knew she had no time to waste.
Officer Laurella rushed to the scene and found a weak gray dog tied so tightly to a pole. It was so tight that the poor pooch couldn’t even move.
According to Amy Roman, the founder and president of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida, an animal rescue organization, the poor dog was dehydrated and emaciated, with his bones and ribs protruding.
The pooch, now named Liam, reached out his paw to the kind officer and bowed his head as if asking for some pets. It was apparent that he didn’t have an easy life and required some special care. Thus, Officer Laurella contacted the rescue organization for some help.
After several vet visits, the rescue dog is now relaxing at Roman’s home, where the pocket bully is recovering and gaining back his strength. There, Liam is eating a lot better than before.
Sadly, Liam is only one of many dogs recently abandoned by their owners.
Many shelters are already overcrowded, and Roman hopes that pet owners will contact rescue organizations and shelters for resources and help instead of just abandoning their pets. And Liam is an excellent proof that dogs deserve a second chance.
Despite everything that he’s experienced at the hands of humans, the loving dog is still reaching out his paw to people. Roman said humans could learn something from dogs like Liam. Such a story helps restore our faith in humanity.
